When your diamonds have to match.....
Diamond Matching

A diamond match is used on the seamlines (shown in circles) between the diamonds.

The seamlines must match 1/4" in from the right hand side of the segments (marked with a black circle)
For each seamline that has to match:

Insert a pin from the wrong side of the top segment, directly in the seamline and 1/4" from the edge.

Put the pin into the right side of the underneath segment, directly in the seamline and 1/4" from the edge.

Do NOT turn the pin now.

Hold the pin straight up and down through both points.

Hold the seam allowances together between your thumb and finger to keep the seamlines matched; then turn the pin and bring the point of the pin up through the fabric following the underneath seamline.

Pinning is more accurate when the pin goes along the straight of grain (along the seamline)

Needle Match

A needle match is used for the V that forms at the top and bottom of the segments.

At the top and bottom, the two segments overlap. The stitching line starts and stops at the point they overlap.

Sew the segments.

The new seam in a diagram is shown in white.

Set the machine for a basting stitch.

If your points don't match on the first try, this basting stitch will be easier to rip out.

Start sewing on a Starter Scrap (SS).

Chain stitch the segment sets together, ending on a Starter Scrap (SS).

Continue sewing segments together until the 8 star points are finished.

Set the seams.

Then, press the seam alowances all in one direction.

Accuracy Check:

Fold the diamond diagonally. the corners should line up perfectly.

If the corners do not line up, re-measure, re-mark the strip set width on the ruler and check the seam allowances.
