Step 2: Sew the center strip and a #1 strip with right sides together. Use the Starmaker 6 to cut the far right end of the strip. The bottom of the Starmaker 6 must lay along the bottom of the center strip to insure an accurate angle. |

On the wrong side of the fabric strips, measure the distance along this slanted cut line on just the Center Strip, including the seam allowance. |
||

The seam allowance has to be included when measuring the slanted edge because all four sides of a diamond have to be the same length. Use this measurement to mark (with dots) the distance between the cutting lines. |

Move the Starmaker 6 along the bottom of the center strip until the side of the Starmaker lines up with the first dot and the bottom of the Starmaker lines up with the bottom of the Center Strip. Continue cutting until you have 6 cut combinations. |

Strips will be added to the center diamond in numberical order: Strip #1 was first, strip #2 will be added next, etc. Step 3: Lay the pieces one right after the other on the #2 strip; starting 3" down from the top of the strip. Pieces should touch, but not overlap. The #1 piece should always be at the top (furthest away from you as you sew); the Center piece should always be closest to you. Press the seam allowances toward the #2 strip. |

Line up the bottom of the Starmaker 6 along the bottom of the #2 strip; and the side of the Starmaker with the cut edge of the #1 piece. Cut the #2 strip. You will now have a center, #1, and #2 piece sewn together for each diamond quilt block in your design. |

Step 4: Sew these pieces to a #3 strip, right sides together. Pieces should butt up against each other, but not overlap. Start sewing the pieces at the top of the #3 strip, but stop about 3" from the bottom of the strip (this is to allow for the angle cutting on the strip). The #2 piece shoudl always be a the top of the strip; the center piece closest to you as you sew it. Press seam allowance toward the #3 strip. |

Step 5: Sew these pieces to a #4 strip, right sides together. Start sewing about 3" from the top of the #4 strip. The #3 piece should always be at the top of the strip; the #1 piece will be closest to you. Press the seam allowances toward the #4 strip. Lay the bottom of the starmaker 6 along the bottom of the #4 strip and line up the side of the Starmaker with the cut edge of the #3 piece. Cut the #4 strip. |

Step 6: Continue adding strips #5, 6, 7, and 8 in the same way. Step 7: Sew the diamonds together in sets of three. Then, cut a half circle 3" from the center. Sew the two half-stars together along just one side. Leave the circle open; leave the seam between two of the points open. |

Step 8: Layer the diamond star right side down; the backing right side up; the batting underneath. Sew the layers together with the wrong side of the star up. Begin sewing at the center circle (marked with an x). Sew around the whole star. Leave one side of the last diamond open (you will need this open to turn the star right side out). Trim the backing fabric and batting even with the edges of the star. Trim the center circle out. Trim the batting and backing even with the open edge of the diamond. Turn the star inside out. Blind stitch the opening by hand. Hand or machine quilting may be done; tie your Christmas tree skirt by machine; or add decorative trim by hand or machine. |
