Doves in the Snow with Kaye Wood

Supplies:
  • View and Do Octagon
  • Starmaker 8
  • Motif fabric - enough for 8 blocks
  • Corners of each block - 1/2 yd
  • Borders - Four 1-1/2" strips
  • Backing - 1 yd
  • Batting - 25" x 25"
  • Binding - cut three 1-1/2" strips

Center and Cut Octagons

1. To center a motif inside an 8" octagon, remove all but the outside octagon ring from the View and Do Octagon and visually center the design in the 6" opening.
Rotary cut around the outside (8" octagon).
Cut Bias Strips

2. Corners - Cut a bias edge by placing the corner of the Starmaker 8 on the corner of a piece of fabric and cutting along the diagonal edge.
Cut 2-1/4" bias strips from this fabric.Sew Bias Strips To 4 Corners

3. Sew a bias strip to one corner of an octagon.
Press seam allowances toward the strip.

4. To insure accuracy, Use the 4 angle of the Starmaker® 8 to square up the corner strips.
Line up the sides of the Starmaker® 8 with the sides of the octagon.
The #2 horizontal line on the Starmaker® 8 should be parallel to the seamline between the octagon and the strip.
Cut both ends of the strip.
Sew and cut each of the four corners the same way.
Machine or hand quilt.
Add a hanging sleeve.
Bind the edges.

5. Sew the squares into rows.
Press. Sew the rows together.
Press.

6. Add borders.

7. Finish the quilt. Layer the quilt top, batting & backing.
