Hi Quilters! Charm Squares, Bali Pops and Jelly Rolls! They’re everywhere and they’re a quilter’s best friend. This week we are celebrating these fabric goodies with a special sale. So I did my internet search to find out what “fun” day June 14th was and I found it was Valentine’s Day. Not sure, but it’s a bit too green outside to be February, I mean, I know it’s the 14th but I’m thinking someone messed up! Upon looking a bit further I found out that today is also Flag Day! Tips and Humor From Kaye…. My “Free” Quilt I use leftover pieces from some of my other projects so the fabric is really “free.” As I work on projects, I cut small leftover pieces into 2″, 3″, or 4″ wide pieces, all different lengths. I also save extra strips that have been cut, which I cut into lengths from 4″ to 10″. I sew the same width strips (all 2″ or all 3″) into a long stripk roll the strip up and put a rubber band around it. More pieces are added to the roll as I finish each project. When I want to amke a No-Problem Scrap Quilt, I cut the lengths that I need from the roll. Any kind of fabric works wlell; even those double knits you can’t stand to throw away can be used. Cottons, poly-cotton, denim, or flannel are also good choices. To sew these into a “No Problem” quilt, start at one end of the roll and cut the strip when it’s long enough. Then start at the beginning again with the roll and sew it lengthwise to the first strip. Then do it again. You can’t mess this up! You couldn’t match these seams if you tried. No-Problem Quilts! And… they’re free!

What In The World Is A Charm Square?

Charm squares usually measure between 2″ and 6″ square. They’re popular for making small projects or scrap quilts; and since they’re usually coordinating prints and solids, they’re so easy to use. Lots better than lugging around bolts of fabric!

This is Kaye’s Nebula pattern. I don’t think the colour is showing up very well; the background is a light green with darker specks throughout. I had to substitute two of the colours in the small triangles but I think they blended in quite well….Maureen
