Layer your 2 fabrics right sides together. Line up the Starmaker 8 in one corner.

Cut along the long edge of the Starmaker 8 with a rotary cutter. This will give you a true bias edge.

Measure from long bias edge and cut 2-3/4". Cut again, 2-3/4" and another 2-3/4". You will have 3 cuts.

Cut 2-3/4" from the larger piece.

Sew along both long edges of each strip. This is your bias tube.

Lay Starmaker 8 on your bias tubes with the point of the Starmaker 8 at the top of the bias tube; cut a triangle. Turn the Starmaker 8 over and cut another triangle. Continue with all 4 strips.

Remove a few stitches at the point. Open up pieces and press seam allowances toward the darker fabric (samples shown have not been pressed yet).

Play with your triangles and arrange them however you want.

Sew in rows, matching seams when necessary.

Week 2 - Morning Glory Block, uses the Starmaker 8
Three fabrics are used in this block
Layer and cut 12 more triangles in the same fabrics from week 1 (light and medium).

Layer and cut medium and dark fabrics into bias strips.

You will need 12 light and medium blocks (white and red) and you will need 4 of the medium and dark (red and green)

Arrange your blocks into any of the variations shown, or create your own!
Sew the blocks together in your desired arrangement

Week 3 - Ribbons Block, uses the Starmaker 8

5 Fabrics are used in this block

  • 1 background fabric (red) (same in both pics, although it does look different - blame my camera)
  • 2 lights (white)
  • and 2 darks (green)

And the cutting techniques are the same as above, using the Starmaker 8

Lay the fabrics out like this, right sides together and cut, sew into bias tubes and then cut again.

You'll need a total of 4 of each light/background combination and 4 of each dark/background combination (16 total squares).

The pictures below show the block sewn together but not pressed (both pictures are the same block). If you don't like the way we put them together, experiment with your own. Send us your pics!

Week 4 - Triangles and Strips Block, uses the Starmaker 8
For either version of this block you will need 8 of these (light and dark) half square blocks cut the same, with the Starmaker 8 Master Template as those in Week 1.
Sew 2 different 2" strips together into a combination strip, then cut into 3.5" squares. You will need 4 of these combinations strips.
Combine into either version and sew them together for your Triangles and Strips 4th Block
Week 5 - Sunny Lanes Block, uses the Starmaker 8

Cut 2 strips, each 2" wide and sew together lengthwise.

Square up one edge.

Sew 2 different 2" strips together into a combination strip, then cut into 2" pieces. You will need 8 of these combinations pieces.

Turn one around and sew together.

You will need 4 of these 4 patch pieces.

Do the same as above with two more fabric strips. You will need 8 of these sewn into 4 4 patch pieces.
Cut half-square triangles as in Week 1. You will need 8 of these half-square triangle pieces.
Arrange all of your pieces as shown, or make up your own design!
Week 6 - Bear Paw Block, uses the Starmaker 8
Four large diagonal half-squares are cut with the Starmaker 8 from bias tubes 3-3/8" wide.

Cut 16 small diagonal half-square triangles from bias tubes 2" wide.

The small square is cut from a strip 2.5" x 10", and cut into 4 - 2.5" squares.

Sew large half-square triangle to 2 smaller half-square triangles.

Sew 2 half-square triangles to the small square

Sew those two together.
