Take a look inside some of the projects in Kaye's Strip Quilting Projects Book 8, Landscapes and Seascapes.

Landscapes and Seascapes. That's the theme for all of these project, as shown in the Strip Quilting 8 series on PBS-TV.

Kaye has also given you information on what it is like to produce a TV show, as well as introductory information about the preparations needed.

All of these projects were created on Kaye's 3rd annual quilting cruise, which sailed to the Eastern Caribbean aboard the ssCosta Riviera.

Autumn Leaves is an easy Attic Window quilt. Each window frames is made from two shades of color for added depth; and across the quilt the shaded fabric goes from dark to light. A black grid separates the windows. Inside the window frame are squares cut from a beautiful leaf fabric. Kaye's technique for mitering the borders using the Starmaker® 8 is shown.

The landscapes include Moonlight on the Pines, which includes several pieced pine trees, a river, transparent lame´or netting to mute or shadow some of the fabrics to give depth to the picture. The easily makes the shapes fit into rows. Island Sunset has island mountains, reflections in the water, everything is cut into wedges with the Starmaker® 6 Master Template.Starmaker® 8

Another class on the cruise was a wallhanging called Winds and Waves, which included shading with netting or tulle fabric for shading, strip piecing including lame´, decorative machine stitching on the sails, tandem stitching for the waves, fish appliques, shadow applique, charms and seashells. Pictures of several student projects are included, one or more of which have a sailboat that looks like it is sinking.

Other projects not shown include:

The Stormy Sea pillow is made from squares and diagonal half-squares.

The Sky Sampler, with 6 different sky techniques shown with appliques inside circular portholes. Techniques for the skies included strip piecing in tubes, scrunching with a difference (using elastic thread in the bobbin), gathering, hand dyed, streak bleached, The porthole circles are trimmed with cording and placed on top of the applique which has been fused and machine stitched to a sea/sky background.

A crooked strip technique (No problem bargello) was the most popular class on the cruise. Without seeing the finished project, students were told to cut crooked strips. With stunned looks on their faces, they jumped right in. The Pointless People had less of a problem than the Pointed People, who wanted to see the finished project. After sewing the crooked strips together, random cuts were made into wedge shapes. These were then sewn back together with the wedges slipped up or down (bargello).
